Abstract

Today, the importance of pragmatic competence is widely recognized in the globalized context of intercultural communication that has become an indispensable part of our lives. However, teacher education programs rarely deal with the practical application of pragmatic theories; therefore students are showing poor performance while communicating with people. To improve students’ pragmatic comprehension and competence, the researcher conducted research among three groups of first-year students majoring in mining. After finding out students’ pragmatic weaknesses along with the reasons for the weaknesses, the researcher implemented exact activities which helped learners understand their faults and how to overcome them in practice. This research lasted a pair (80 minutes) for each group which gave positive effects of the chosen activities. It is recommended for the educators as a brief guide for teachers whose students have pragmatic problems which are connected with grammar and cultural knowledge in communication.
