The performance and reliability of open-pit mining excavators largely depend on the efficiency of their hoisting mechanisms. The winding drum and transmission system are subjected to continuously changing loads caused by variations in steel wire rope tension during excavation operations. This study develops a mathematical model describing the relationship between rope winding conditions, drum geometry, transmitted torque, and required drive power. The analysis demonstrates that changes in the number of rope windings and effective drum radius significantly influence the mechanical loading of the hoisting system. The proposed model can be used to optimize drum dimensions, reduce power losses, and improve the operational reliability of mining excavators.
