IMMUNOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF ACUTE RENAL FAILURE IN LIVER CIRRHOSIS
Abstract
Assessment of renal failure in cirrhosis through biomarkers such as interleukin-18 (IL-18), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-20 (IL-20) can help differentiate the causes of this complication and allow for predicting the consequences of the disease.
Cytokines are multifunctional proteins and play an important role as intracellular molecules. They are produced by immune cells, including T-cells and macrophages. They include interleukins IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-12, IL-17, interferon-γ (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), all of which promote inflammation. Interleukins with anti-inflammatory activity include IL-4, IL-10, IL-11, and IL-13
