THE IMPORTANCE OF IL-6 CYTOKINE IN ORAL FLUID IN ORAL MUCOSITIS IN PATIENTS WITH CERVICAL CANCER
Abstract
Oral mucositis is a common complication of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, characterized by inflammation of the oral mucosa, pain, and a deterioration in patients' quality of life. Its development may lead to dose reduction or interruption of anticancer treatment.
In patients with cervical cancer receiving chemotherapy or combination therapy, the risk of inflammatory complications remains high, necessitating the search for early diagnostic markers.
Oral fluid cytokine profiling is considered a promising noninvasive method for assessing inflammation. Mucositis is associated with increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-6, reflecting the activity of the pathological process. However, data on cytokine dynamics in this patient population are limited.
