THE ROLE OF CHITOSAN IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC WOUNDS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF CLINICAL TRIALS
Abstract
Chronic wounds (diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers) are among the most common and difficult-to-treat pathologies worldwide. They lead to prolonged treatment, high economic costs, and a reduced quality of life for patients. Existing treatment methods (traditional dressings, antibiotics, tissue transplants) are not always effective, and there is a need for new, biologically active dressings.
