Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of extensive listening (EL) supported by podcasts and vodcasts in improving EFL learners’ listening comprehension. An action research design was conducted with 49 lower-intermediate undergraduate students over two semesters. Data were collected through tests, listening logs, questionnaires, and observations. Findings indicate significant improvement in listening performance, as well as increased learner motivation and engagement. The integration of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) enabled greater learner autonomy and flexible access to authentic input. However, challenges such as fast speech rate and unfamiliar vocabulary were observed. Overall, the study confirms that extensive listening through digital media is an effective approach to developing listening comprehension in EFL contexts.
