The preparation of future teachers requires more than the acquisition of ready-made mathematical procedures. Prospective teachers must learn to formulate problems, select and justify strategies, interpret evidence, detect misconceptions, and redesign explanations for learners. This conceptual-methodological paper examines how problem-based learning (PBL) and mathematical research tasks can be integrated to develop these higher-level thinking skills.
