FOREIGNIZATION AND DOMESTICATION OF UZBEK PROPER NAMES IN PARALLEL CORPUS TRANSLATION
Keywords:

The article examines how Uzbek proper names are rendered in literary translation, working from a parallel text set built out of Abdulla Qodiriy's O'tkan kunlar with its English versions and Tohir Malik's Shaytanat with its Russian version. Each name-rendering choice is coded on the conservation and substitution scale of J. F. Aixelá and on T. Hermans's split between conventional and loaded names. Anthroponyms follow a dominant foreignizing pattern realised through transliteration, while loaded names such as Kumush (silver) forfeit their inner sense. Normalisation of the tutuq belgisi is treated as a precondition for reliable parallel alignment.
