CORPUS LINGUISTICS IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES (ESP): A FOCUS ON MEDICAL DISCOURSE
Abstract
This thesis explores the role of corpus linguistics in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), with a particular emphasis on medical English. Corpus linguistics provides empirical tools for analyzing authentic language use, enabling more effective teaching, learning, and understanding of specialized discourse. In medicine, where precision and clarity are essential, corpus-based approaches offer valuable insights into terminology, phraseology, and genre conventions. This study examines how corpora are used to analyze medical texts, improve ESP instruction, and support healthcare communication.
