Abstract

The Discussion section is one of the most intellectually demanding components of an academic research article written in the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion). While the Results section presents research findings objectively, the Discussion section interprets those findings, explains their significance, connects them with previous studies, and demonstrates the contribution of the research to scientific knowledge. Many novice researchers experience difficulties in organizing arguments, interpreting data critically, and maintaining coherence while writing discussions. This article examines the structure, functions, and writing strategies of the Discussion section in IMRAD-based scholarly articles. The study also highlights common mistakes in discussion writing and proposes practical recommendations for producing analytical, coherent, and academically persuasive discussions. Particular attention is given to interpretation techniques, comparison with existing literature, limitations, implications, and concluding arguments.
