Abstract

Alongside reports on social, economic, political, and cultural developments in Turkestan during the late nineteenth and the first quarter of the twentieth century, the periodical press also provided information on the legal status of women in the region. Newspapers and journals presented diverse, often conflicting, and highly debated views regarding the women’s question and their legal rights. This article offers a comparative analysis of the opinions and discussions on women’s rights as reflected in the periodical press, highlighting the different perspectives and approaches adopted by contemporary authors.
