The study analyzes the role of connotative meaning in intercultural communication and highlights the difficulties translators face when transferring culturally marked units from one language to another. Particular attention is paid to translation strategies used to preserve national and cultural meanings, including equivalence, adaptation, explicitation, and cultural substitution. The article argues that successful translation requires not only linguistic competence but also a deep understanding of the source and target cultures.
