Abstract

This article investigates the etymological origins and structural peculiarities of modern English slang as one of the most dynamic components of contemporary language. The study examines the historical development of slang vocabulary, the processes influencing lexical innovation, and the structural mechanisms underlying slang formation. Special attention is devoted to the role of globalization, digital communication, social media, and intercultural interaction in shaping modern slang expressions. Furthermore, the article analyzes morphological, semantic, and sociolinguistic characteristics of slang units and explores their functions within contemporary communication. The findings indicate that modern English slang demonstrates high productivity through borrowing, clipping, acronymization, semantic shifts, and creative lexical formation. The research outcomes contribute to sociolinguistics, lexicology, phraseology, and contemporary linguistic studies.
