Abstract

This expanded article examines the pedagogical significance of congratulatory speech acts in translation training and intercultural English classes. Congratulatory texts are short in form but culturally dense in meaning; therefore, they can be used to teach not only vocabulary and grammar, but also pragmatic equivalence, politeness strategies, cultural concepts and audience-oriented translation. The article explains why Uzbek and English congratulatory formulas require functional rather than literal translation, proposes a step-by-step classroom methodology, presents sample tasks, assessment criteria and practical recommendations for teachers. Special attention is paid to the translation of blessing formulas, address forms, digital congratulations, formal and informal registers, and culturally loaded expressions such as “umr”, “baraka”, “xonadon”, “niyat”, “muborak bo‘lsin” and “well done”. The study concludes that systematic work with congratulatory speech acts develops students’ linguistic accuracy, pragmatic awareness, intercultural sensitivity and independent translation decision-making.
