IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL FEATURES OF THE ENDOMYOMETRIAL JUNCTIONAL ZONE IN ADENOMYOSIS AMONG WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE
Abstract
Adenomyosis is one of the most common proliferative gynecological disorders affecting women of reproductive age and is characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium. This disease is considered one of the leading causes of dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, menorrhagia, impaired reproductive function, and reduced quality of life. In recent years, advances in fundamental research have shifted the understanding of adenomyosis from being merely a heterotopic localization of the endometrium to a disease associated with structural and functional alterations of the endometrial-myometrial interface, known as the junctional zone
