Abstract

Chronic exposure to carbon monoxide is considered as one of the factors causing profound morphofunctional disorders of the reproductive system. The present study analyzes morphological and morphometric changes in the uterus with an emphasis on the role of oxidative stress in their pathogenesis. It was found that prolonged CO exposure leads to a progressive decrease in endometrial thickness and a decrease in the number of uterine glands, which indicates a violation of regenerative processes and tissue hypoxia. It is assumed that the key mechanism of the identified changes is the activation of free radical processes and damage to cellular structures. The results obtained emphasize the importance of developing pathogenetically based therapies, including antioxidant protection and stimulation of reparative processes. The proposed approaches can help improve the effectiveness of treatment and restore reproductive function in chronic carbon monoxide intoxication.
