THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This article examines the relationship between cultural heritage and tourism development, emphasizing their interdependence in contemporary socio-economic processes. Cultural heritage, including historical monuments, traditions, customs, and intangible cultural values, serves as a key resource for attracting tourists and shaping a country’s unique tourism identity. The study analyzes how the preservation and effective management of cultural heritage sites contribute to the growth of tourism, while tourism itself plays a significant role in financing conservation efforts and promoting cultural awareness. Special attention is given to sustainable tourism approaches that ensure the protection of heritage resources while maximizing their economic and social benefits. The findings suggest that a balanced integration of cultural heritage preservation and tourism development enhances both cultural continuity and economic growth.
