THE ROLE OF COLOR CONCEPTS IN INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: FRENCH, RUSSIAN AND UZBEK PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

Color concepts constitute an important component of linguistic and cultural worldviews and play a significant role in intercultural communication. Colors function not only as visual phenomena but also as carriers of cultural meanings, values, beliefs, and social experiences. The interpretation of color symbolism varies across cultures, influencing communication, perception, and understanding among representatives of different linguistic communities. This article examines the role of color concepts in intercultural communication from French, Russian, and Uzbek perspectives. The study analyzes the symbolic meanings of major colors, their representation in language, phraseology, literature, and cultural traditions. Particular attention is given to similarities and differences in color symbolism and their impact on intercultural interaction. The findings demonstrate that knowledge of culturally specific color associations contributes to effective communication and helps prevent misunderstandings in multilingual and multicultural environments. The research highlights the importance of integrating cultural and linguistic knowledge into foreign language education and intercultural competence development.
