THE POETICS OF LANDSCAPE IN ISAJON SULTON'S STORY “SUVDAGI KOSA”

Abstract

Landscape is one of the most significant artistic components of literary works. In modern Uzbek prose, landscape descriptions are not limited to the depiction of natural scenery but serve as an important means of expressing philosophical ideas and revealing the inner world of literary characters. This tendency is especially evident in the works of Isajon Sultan, one of the prominent representatives of contemporary Uzbek literature. The present article analyzes the artistic and symbolic functions of landscape in Isajon Sultan’s story The Bowl on the Water (Suvdagi kosa). Particular attention is paid to the images of the sea, water, wind, birds, moon, and waves, which play an essential role in conveying the protagonist’s spiritual experiences and worldview. The study argues that landscape in the story functions not merely as a background for events but as a meaningful artistic system through which the writer explores human existence, destiny, homesickness, and the relationship between humanity and the Creator.
