REFLECTION OF THE RUSSIAN LINGUISTIC WORLDVIEW IN THE TRANSLATIONS BY CHOLPON

Abstract

The article examines how the Russian linguistic worldview is rendered in Cho’lpon’s Uzbek translations of Russian literature. Drawing on I. G’afurov’s analysis of Cho’lpon’s Chekhov versions and on B. Quénu’s study of his Pushkin work, it documents systematic domestication of Orthodox-Christian realia, Russian emotion and abstraction lexemes, and culture-bound idioms into the Uzbek-Muslim conceptual sphere, together with lexical neologism that fills the gaps left by missing equivalents. The theoretical grounding rests on the works of W. von Humboldt, E. Sapir, B. L. Whorf, and A. Wierzbicka. Documented pairs are coded into a strategy typology and quantified.
