This article examines the strategic directions for ensuring the sustainable economic development of higher education institutions in the context of modernization, digital transformation and increasing demand for high-quality human capital. Higher education institutions are no longer viewed only as educational organizations, but also as active economic entities that influence regional development, employment, innovation, entrepreneurship and national competitiveness. The article argues that the sustainable economic development of universities depends on the diversification of financial resources, integration with the labor market, commercialization of scientific research, digital management, international cooperation, green campus development and effective quality assurance. The study also proposes a system of strategic directions and measurable indicators that can be used to evaluate the economic sustainability of higher education institutions. The findings show that universities can strengthen their long-term economic stability when educational outcomes, research activity and financial management are closely connected with the needs of the economy.
