RESULTS OF SURGICAL TREATMENT OF METASTASIS OF GASTRIC CANCER TO THE LIVER

Abstract

Liver metastases from gastric cancer significantly worsen the prognosis and limit treatment options. The results of surgical removal of liver metastases in 72 patients were analyzed. Surgery was shown to provide significantly better survival rates compared to chemotherapy alone: five-year survival was 31% versus 8%. The best results were observed with solitary small metastases and R0 resection in combination with systemic therapy. The study confirms the efficacy of the surgical approach in carefully selected patients.
