EFFECT OF SOWING DATE AND SEEDING RATE ON FIELD GERMINATION AND PLANT SURVIVAL OF MUNG BEAN VARIETIES

Abstract

This article investigates the effect of sowing date and seeding rate on field germination and plant survival of two mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) varieties, namely Navro‘z and Durdona. The field experiment was conducted in 2022 using three seeding rates — 250, 300 and 350 thousand plants ha⁻¹ — and three sowing dates: 10 June, 20 June and 1 July. The study showed that both varieties demonstrated high field germination and stable plant survival under all investigated variants. In Navro‘z, field germination varied from 94.4% to 97.2%, while plant survival ranged from 91.4% to 93.8%. In Durdona, field germination ranged from 95.2% to 97.5%, and survival rate varied from 92.0% to 93.8%. Increasing the seeding rate from 250 to 350 thousand plants ha⁻¹ increased the number of emerged and preserved plants in both varieties. The effect of sowing date was relatively weak compared with the effect of seeding rate, which indicates that the studied varieties were well adapted to the sowing periods used in the experiment. The highest plant density and the most stable survival indicators were recorded at the seeding rate of 350 thousand plants ha⁻¹.
