MORPHOLOGICAL CHANGES IN THE LUNGS OF 9- AND 18-MONTH-OLD OUTBRED WHITE RATS AFTER CORRECTIVE THERAPY WITH THYMALIN AND POMEGRANATE SEED OIL FOLLOWING CHEMOTHERAPY

The results of the study demonstrated that combined corrective therapy using Thymalin and pomegranate seed oil effectively alleviated the morphological and morphometric damage to lung tissue caused by the toxic effects of cisplatin. Histological examination revealed preservation of the integrity of the mesothelium and serosal membrane, uniform architecture of the alveolar septa, restoration of the bronchiolar epithelial lining, and the absence of inflammatory infiltration, edema, and fibrotic lesions, indicating substantial tissue regeneration. Morphometric parameters approached those of the control group, confirming the immunomodulatory and trophic effects of Thymalin as well as the antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties of pomegranate seed oil. A reduction in the number of lipid-containing cells within lung-associated lymphoid tissue (LALT), the absence of perivascular infiltration, and preservation of endothelial integrity indicated restoration of vascular stability.
