ACUTE BRONCHIOLITIS IN CHILDREN: A MODERN VIEW OF THE PROBLEM
Abstract
At present, there are no clearly defined screening and laboratory criteria for assessing the severity of bronchiolitis, which would allow accurate prediction of disease course and development of an effective management strategy for these patients. The study of the cytokine profile helps to understand disease severity and predict its course, as different levels of interleukins (for example, IL-6 and IL-8) correlate with the degree of airway obstruction and the risk of complications. A reduction in morbidity among infants is promoted by early initiation of breastfeeding and the intake of colostrum rich in IgA.
