Developing oral fluency is one of the main goals of English language teaching in EFL contexts. However, many learners experience difficulties expressing their ideas confidently despite having sufficient grammatical knowledge. Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) encourages learners to use English through meaningful communicative tasks and has been recognized as an effective learner-centered approach. This study investigated the effectiveness of task-based speaking activities in improving oral fluency among university EFL students. A quasi-experimental design was employed with an experimental group receiving task-based instruction and a control group receiving conventional speaking lessons. Data were collected through speaking pre-tests and post-tests, classroom observations, and student questionnaires. The findings revealed that students who participated in task-based speaking activities demonstrated greater improvement in oral fluency, confidence, and classroom interaction than those taught through traditional methods. The study concludes that task-based speaking activities effectively enhance oral fluency and recommends their integration into EFL speaking courses.
