Abstract

Aviation terminology constitutes a highly specialized lexical system that ensures precision, safety, and efficiency in global aeronautical communication. As aviation operates across national, linguistic, and cultural boundaries, the role of standardized terminology becomes critically important. This paper examines aviation terminology as a distinct subsystem of language for specific purposes (LSP), focusing on its formation mechanisms, patterns of usage, and translation-related challenges. The study employs descriptive and analytical linguistic methods to explore structural, semantic, and functional features of aviation terms, drawing on examples from international aviation documentation and professional discourse. Particular attention is paid to term formation processes such as compounding, abbreviation, acronymization, and borrowing, which contribute to the economy and clarity of professional communication. The paper also discusses the pragmatic aspects of term usage, emphasizing the need for unambiguous interpretation in operational contexts. In addition, translation issues are analyzed, including problems of equivalence, semantic shifts, and the risks associated with non-standard or inconsistent rendering of aviation terms in different languages. The findings highlight that aviation terminology functions not merely as a collection of technical words but as a systematically organized lexical system shaped by international standardization and safety requirements. The study contributes to terminological research and has practical implications for translators, linguists, and aviation professionals involved in multilingual communication.
