THYROID DISEASE PREVALENCE IN OVERWEIGHT ADOLESCENT GIRLS LIVING IN IODINE-DEFICIENT REGIONS
Abstract
Thyroid gland function affects all metabolic processes in the body and plays a particularly crucial role in the mental, physical, and sexual development of children and adolescents. Thyroid diseases are highly prevalent in natural geographic areas characterized by iodine deficiency, though this problem can be addressed through salt iodization programs. This study examines the prevalence of thyroid diseases among overweight school-age adolescent girls residing in the Fergana region.
