SEASONAL–LABOR FOLKLORE: CONCEPT AND ITS ROLE IN ORAL FOLK TRADITION

Abstract

Seasonal–labor folklore constitutes one of the most archaic and functionally significant layers of oral folk tradition, reflecting the deep interconnection between human labor, natural cycles, and ritualized cultural practices. This article aims to conceptualize seasonal–labor folklore, identify its structural and functional characteristics, and analyze its role within oral folk culture, with particular reference to Uzbek folklore traditions. The study employs a qualitative methodology, including comparative analysis of national and international folkloristic sources, historical-cultural interpretation, and descriptive analysis of ritual labor songs. The findings demonstrate that seasonal–labor folklore serves rhythmic, ritual, social-integrative, and educational functions, ensuring continuity of cultural memory and collective labor practices. The results contribute to folkloristics, ethnomusicology, and music pedagogy, especially in the context of preserving intangible cultural heritage.
